With Macworld Boston (August 8th thru 11th) upon us, Santa’s programmers are busily coding and debugging some of the hot new games you’ll be seeing this Christmas. Among them is a game we preview in this month’s issue, Marathon 2. If you thought Marathon 1 was great, wait until you check out the Marathon 2 preview demo. And then there’s X-Wing, the game we’ve all been waiting for (well, at least most of us). I recently had the pleasure of seeing an early alpha version of X-Wing, and all I can say is wow! All the graphics have been upgraded to high-res for the Mac version and it looks...well...stunning. We should have a preview of Mac X-Wing soon.
With titles like Full Throttle, F/A-18 Hornet 2.0 and Korean Crisis (both of which will have shipped by the time you read this), Wing Commander III, System Shock, Indy Car Racing, and a host of others in the pipeline for Christmas, it looks like it’ll be a white Christmas indeed. But one thing scares me, let’s hope the post-Christmas drought doesn’t stop the momentum Mac games have recently achieved.
Sound Manager 3.1 on the CD-ROM!
Apple has recently released Sound Manger 3.1. You’ll find in the Put in System Folder on this CD-ROM. Since it now runs in native mode on Power Macs, you should see significant speed ups on games like Marathon and Dark Forces.
IMG Bookstore Now Open!
IMG is now offering a variety of strategy guides, programming books, and more. Check out the folder called IMG Bookstore on this CD-ROM for more information.
Happenings at IMG
In the past month we’ve been working on upgrading some of our services. We recently implemented a new E-mail system that will help us answer our voluminous E-mail and help automate some of the frequently asked questions (see below). With this new E-mail system, you can expect to get quicker responses to your E-mail.
We also recently upgraded our mailing service. With this new mailing system in place, we expect to dramatically speed up orders placed through IMG.
On a sad note, our World Wide Web page was recently taken down to do problems with our service provider. We hope to have a new Web page up and running within a month or two.

Problems with the June issue of IMG
The CD-ROM directory on the June issue of IMG was corrupted during the CD mastering process. As a result, there were missing icons and missing graphics on the CD-ROM. We apologize for this inconvenience.
